North Devon MP, Selaine Saxby has awarded her latest Coronavirus Heroes Points of Light Award to The Voice FM.
The Barnstaple based local radio station for North Devon has been on air throughout the Covid-19 pandemic providing local updates, messages of support and an infectious optimism to get the listeners of North Devon through. Local radio stations across the country have been as stretched as any other business but The Voice FM team have adapted to be able to continue to provide a vital public service.
In their nomination, the listener said:
“Throughout this dreadful time the presenters have not only kept us up to date on the Coronavirus, but for many of us, (particularly those living on our own), they have been a lifeline. They have not only made me laugh...but one presenter (thanks James) was so emotional about the whole situation during his programme one day (and that wasn't even the day he was supposed to be getting married), he made me cry.... I just felt he knew how many of us were feeling.
OK they are not doctors, nurses, carers etc, but they have been there for all of us throughout this terrible ordeal. I really believe they deserve some recognition.”
In accepting the award on behalf of the team, Jim Trevelyan, Station Manager at The Voice said:
“To be recognised in this way for The Voice is a great honour, these last few months have been tough for businesses, and for individuals, our job in this is simple, we are here for North Devon, to be a friend for people who couldn’t see loved ones, to be a source of local information, and to help businesses survive and then once again thrive. Recognition such as this is a testament to a great team at The Voice, and their commitment to keeping the community spirit alive. Thank you, it’s very much appreciated.”
“I was really pleased when we received this nomination from a North Devon resident as I know the challenges the station has faced over the past few months and yet has still pushed through and produced uplifting, positive and supportive programming throughout to get North Devon through. I am delighted to be able to publicly recognise the great work the station does.
Congratulations to the whole team. I was glad to able to thank presenters Hopps and Chapple in person this weekend whilst at Exmoor Zoo. Thousands of listeners across North Devon are grateful for the service they provide. I am strong supporter of local radio and look forward to being in the studio with them in person again soon!”
