Skills Builder Universal Framework
In a crisis like the one we face today, essential skills – like listening, problem solving, staying positive and teamwork – are invaluable, both for businesses struggling to adapt to the impact of COVID and the people who are job-seeking in a challenging economy. They give young people the chance to live up to their potential, no matter what their social background. The Sutton Trust reports that 88% of young people, 94% of employers and 97% of teachers believe that essential skills are as or more important than academic qualifications. But without a common language through which to develop them, schools and businesses cannot help young people.
Charity, Business in the Community, have launched the Skills Builder Universal Framework (www.skillsbuilder.org/universal) that will provide that common language. The Framework has the support of over 750 organisations from across education, business and the third sector; it provides the structure which schools and businesses need to teach, develop and assess essential skills. Most of all, it offers consistency as a young person moves through the education system into the world of work.
