Tobacco and Vapes Bill Survey

Environment APPG

The Government has introduced the historic Tobacco and Vapes Bill into Parliament, which is one of the most significant public health interventions in a generation.

As the Prime Minister said in his Conservative Party Conference speech, this legislation will tackle the single biggest entirely preventable cause of ill health, disability and death and take powers to clamp down on the worrying rise in youth vaping, where one in five children have already tried vaping.

This Bill is a free vote for MPs and as such, I am very keen to hear from residents about their views on it. There are elements I strongly support, and some I have concerns about and am therefore, very keen to hear about your views on each clause of the Bill, which are detailed below each question.

Do you agree that vapes should not be deliberately targeted at children?

We have seen a rapid rise in youth vaping recently with around one in five 11-17-year-olds in Great Britain now having tried vaping. Vaping carries the risk of future harms and nicotine addiction and, therefore, is never recommended for children. The Bill will stop vapes from being deliberately targeted at children, while continuing to support adult smokers to quit.

Do you agree that we should introduce new regulatory making powers to restrict vape flavours packaging and point of sale displays?

The Bill will introduce new regulatory-making powers to restrict vape flavours, packaging and point of sale displays. Any restrictions will be taken forward in secondary legislation, which will be subject to further consultation.

Do you agree that we should extend the existing age of sale for nicotine vapes to include non nicotine vapes and provide powers to introduce age of sale requirements for other nicotine products?

The Bill will close the regulatory loophole that allows the free distribution of vapes to children. The Bill will extend the existing age of sale for nicotine vapes to include non-nicotine vapes and provide powers to introduce age of sale requirements for other nicotine products.

Do you agree that we should increase the tax on vape products?
